After graduating from the University of Mississippi Medical School in 1964, Dr. Murphy completed his surgery training at the University of Tennessee at Memphis. He served as Chief of Surgery at Torrejon Air Force Base in Madrid, Spain, before returning to the University Of Tennessee, where he completed his plastic surgery residency in 1975. Dr., Murphy, a Board Certified plastic surgeon, is a founding member of The Clinic of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and was also instrumental in developing such services as the Burn Center at the University of Tennessee. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, and past president of the Tennessee Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. He is also a member of the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the American Burn Association, and the American Cleft Lip and Palate Association.
